About State of Washington Tourism

The SWT Mission

The sole purpose of State of Washington Tourism is
marketing Washington to tourists. In order to accomplish this,
the activities of the Corporation will include, but not be limited
to advocating, promoting, developing and sustaining
destination tourism marketing for The State of Washington.

History and Background

The WTA was born of tourism industry advocacy initiatives to sustain Washington State tourism following the closure of the State tourism office in 2011. The WTA immediately set forth to protect and preserve a number of ongoing state tourism programs and valuable marketing assets of importance to the industry. In 2018, the WTA passed legislation to reestablish a statewide destination marketing organization. In 2021, WTA was rebranded as State of Washington Tourism to align the industry and consumer brands. Today the SWT serves as the state contractor to promote Washington as a tourism destination.
