SEATTLE (June 1, 2024) – The Snoqualmie Valley will be the next regional destination to participate in the Rural Tourism Support (RTS) program from State of Washington Tourism (SWT). SnoValley Chamber of Commerce will play a leadership role in this program and help bring together local tourism stakeholders. A panel of industry experts selected the Snoqualmie Valley as the fourth destination for the RTS program after a competitive process with other regions across the state.
Launched in 2021, the RTS program is a key pillar of SWT’s destination development strategy and a vital resource for underserved communities. Facilitated by sustainable tourism expert Kristin Dahl, founder and CEO of Crosscurrent Collective, the program implements a community approach to destination development that includes a steering committee of local stakeholders, public workshops, and a 10-year vision for tourism in the area.
Dahl’s knowledge and experience span 17 years in destination communities across the Pacific Northwest. During her tenure at Travel Oregon, Dahl introduced new programs for communities to build and manage sustainable tourism, including the Oregon Tourism Studio and ways to enhance outdoor recreational experiences.
“The RTS program is a substantial investment in the long-term growth of tourism in the Snoqualmie Valley,” said Kelly Coughlin, CEO of SnoValley Chamber of Commerce. “Industry and community leaders look forward to pursuing sustainable tourism practices that support the region’s economy, preserve local history and culture, and safeguard our natural resources.”
After completing the RTS program, tourism stakeholders may apply for grant funding from SWT to support a series of priority projects. These projects, identified through months of strategic planning, should align with community values and industry needs to build momentum toward a more sustainable future for tourism in the Snoqualmie Valley.
