Tasked with leading media relations and destination publicity efforts, GreenRubino will work to attract out-of-state visitors that will generate economic impact for the state of Washington

SEATTLE – The Washington Tourism Alliance (WTA), a nonprofit organization with the purpose of advocating, promoting, developing and sustaining destination tourism marketing for Washington State, has selected award-winning creative marketing and public relations agency GreenRubino as its PR partner after a competitive RFP process. The WTA will work with GreenRubino to execute a strategic travel publicity program that includes media relations, crisis communications, and media missions and events in designated domestic markets.

As the WTA’s new public relations partner, GreenRubino brings extensive destination marketing and publicity expertise to the organization, as well as a deep understanding of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries. The agency has worked with destinations and hospitality brands from around the US for over 40 years, including many destinations around the state of Washington, thereby positioning itself as an agency leader in the travel space. The WTA will partner with GreenRubino to implement PR strategies designed to attract domestic and international visitors to the state, with special attention to rural, tourism-dependent counties. WTA and GreenRubino will seek to generate feature media coverage for the state’s natural wonders and highlight its abundance of outdoor recreational activities and attractions. Additionally, the public relations team will provide assistance and counsel to tourist communities affected by natural disasters and work closely with tourism organizations throughout the state.

“GreenRubino’s thorough knowledge of the state, along with the team’s expertise in public relations tactics and measurement, made them a clear choice to represent the State of Washington,” said David Blandford, executive director of the Washington Tourism Alliance. “We look forward to this partnership and sharing our collective love of travel throughout the state with visitors from around the country.”

The Washington Tourism Alliance (WTA) is a nonprofit organization that was created and launched when the state tourism office was closed by the legislature in 2011. Broad industry segments—including destination marketing organizations, hotels, attractions, tours, transportation, tribes and cultural interests—came together to find a sustainable, long-term funding mechanism to support a destination marketing program. As directed by the legislation, the WTA has reestablished a state destination marketing and communications program, and now GreenRubino is a key partner in this process.
